  • Major Gifts Officer

    About the Role

    The Goldwater Institute is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Major Gifts Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for research/prospecting efforts, securing meetings for Executive/Senior staff, establishing and maintaining relationships with donors, and securing funding. You will work closely with the development team to further the mission and objectives of the Goldwater Institute.

    To be successful as a major gifts officer, you should be a people person with excellent written and verbal communication and be skilled at negotiation. Top candidates will be able to solve problems and develop individualized strategies that work for different donors.

    Primary Duties

    • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with a focus on soliciting gifts of $5,000 or more through face-to-face meetings.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts program that includes research, identification, cultivation, scheduling meetings, creating strategic solicitation proposals, and stewardship of new major donors and new foundations
    • Schedule meetings with prospective donors for President and senior staff
    • Work closely with the Director of Development, President, and other senior staff to develop fundraising strategies and plans
    • Prepare proposals, presentations, and other materials to utilize during solicitations for major gifts
    • Collaborate with other members of the Goldwater Institute team to ensure that major gift fundraising is integrated with team wide efforts
    • Attend relevant team meetings/events, fundraising events, and conferences to stay up-to-date on best practices in major gift fundraising

    Minimum Requirements

    • Prior experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in the nonprofit sector
    • A solid understanding of finances and budgeting
    • Commitment to being a team-player, and helping others on the team when needed
    • Proven track record of successfully soliciting and closing major gifts
    • Strong organizational and project management skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with donors and colleagues
    • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends
    • Familiarity with donor databases and other fundraising tools (Salesforce a plus)
    • Ability to travel when required
    • Preferably live in the Phoenix area and work in-person at the Goldwater headquarters.

    Salary and Compensation

    Salary commensurate with experience.
