Dr. Jeffrey A. Singer is a visiting fellow at the Goldwater Institute. He received his BA from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and his MD from New York Medical College. After completing his Surgical Residency at the Maricopa County Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, he became certified by the American Board of Surgery as a specialist in General Surgery in 1982 and began a private surgical practice.
He is a principal and founder of Valley Surgical Clinics, Ltd., one of the oldest and largest private group surgical practices in Arizona, founded in 1986. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and in the past has served on the editorial advisory board of AZ Medicine, the journal of the Arizona Medical Association. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. He has also served on the Arizona Medical Association Committee on Legislative Affairs. He was Treasurer of Arizonans for Health Care Freedom, sponsor of the Arizona Health Care Freedom Act, which amended the Arizona Constitution in 2010.
Dr. Singer has a deep interest in public policy about which he has written and lectured extensively. He is on the Advisory Board of the Arizona State University Center for Political Thought and Leadership, and has served as an Instructor in the Center’s Continuing Education Program at the ASU Extension. In the past he was an adjunct scholar at the Reason Foundation in Los Angeles, CA, and he currently is an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC.
In addition to articles appearing in the peer-reviewed medical literature, he has contributed chapters to books on public policy and has had numerous articles appear in such publications as the Wall Street Journal. Washington Times, Investor’s Business Daily, Forbes.com, Time.com, US News and World Report, Reason Magazine, the Orange County Register, The Hill, Des Moines Register, Tampa Tribune, Detroit News and the Arizona Republic. He has appeared on local and national television and radio, including Fox News, CNBC, and the Fox Business Channel.
