Timothy Sandefur’s Conscience of the Constitution Book Discussion, Signing and Q&A  May 15, 2014

Timothy Sandefur’s latest book, “Conscience of the Constitution,” is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the most fundamental value animating our Republic. Here’s a hint: it’s not democracy, it’s individual liberty. According to Sandefur, the structures and guarantees of the Constitution can only be fully understood within the context of the principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence—the protection of the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The only thing surprising about this conclusion is the fact that a book had to be written to make the case for it.

Continuing Legal Education Event: Constitutional Judging--The Proper Role of the Judiciary in Enforcing Our State and Federal Constitutions.  October 25, 2013

On Friday, October 25, the Goldwater Institute, the League of Women Voters (AZ), the Institute for Justice and the Federalist Society will host a Continuing Legal Education event on this subject, featuring a panel of judges, including include Senior Judge Harold DeMoss of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Barry Anderson; California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu; and Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett.

What Role Should Unions Have in Government?  April 07, 2013

Please join us for a debate watching party on the future of labor unions and the government on Sunday, April 7! Arizona’s largest independent television news station, KTVK-TV (Channel 3), will broadcast this debate about the role of labor unions in state and local government on April 7. Facing off on Channel 3’s “Politics Unplugged” will be Goldwater Institute constitutional policy expert Nick Dranias and former state Senator David Lujan, whose experience with union issues includes his prior service as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board.
