Week in Review: This Anti-Gun Law Didn’t Stand a Shot

When the gun control crowd on the Pima County, Ariz., Board of Supervisors tried picking a fight over the state’s firearm statutes, Goldwater warned them that they were breaking the law.

They didn’t listen. So, we took the government to court on behalf of gun owners—and this week, we won.

On Tuesday, a state court judge struck down the illegal law, which required residents to report lost and stolen firearms to the government within two days…or face $1,000 fines. Arizona state law couldn’t be clearer: local governments cannot regulate firearms. The ruling is “a significant victory for the rule of law and for gun owners statewide,” Goldwater Staff Attorney Parker Jackson says.

We’ll keep defending the right of armed self-defense—and we’ll keep rogue government entities in check when they run roughshod over our rights.

It’s time for states to put patients first and remove these barriers. After all, mental health professionals who are licensed and in good standing should be able to help patients in desperate need of care.

Marx-Inspired Textbook in 1 of 4 Classrooms?

Millions of K-12 students are hearing lies about America’s founding from a “history” book written by Howard Zinn, a self-avowed socialist who borrows heavily from Karl Marx. They’re being told that America was founded on “systemic racism,” and that the American Revolution was “a project of economic manipulation and political oppression perpetrated by wealthy elites at the expense of the poor.”

“Students need to find hope in the fact that we have much to strive for, but we are founded on principles of liberty and flourishing,” Goldwater’s Tyler Bonin, a former history teacher and author of a new report exposing Zinn’s falsehoods, tells The College Fix.

America’s civic memory is fading, but Goldwater is working around the nation so that children can celebrate America’s promise of hope—not wallow in despair.
