Arizonans have an opportunity to strengthen their elections with the Arizonans for Voter ID Act, a new initiative that will ensure greater integrity at the ballot box. Now, the Goldwater Institute has joined the Free Enterprise Club in supporting the initiative which, if passed, will improve Arizona’s current election laws.

The Arizonans for Voter ID Act will improve existing in-person voter ID requirements, clarifies the process by which an individual requests a mail-in ballot, provides a free voter identification option, and will prevent ballot harvesting by requiring an ID upon in-person submission. These commonsense reforms are not new to Arizona: Nine other states have implemented similar reforms with great success.

Recent statewide polling shows that Arizonans across the aisle agree that voter ID requirements should be in place, with 82% of participants saying they support an ID requirement to vote in Arizona, while 63% also support voters providing identification to vote by mail.

“The Arizonans for Voter ID Act is a commonsense approach to safeguarding elections in our state,” said Victor Riches, President and CEO of the Goldwater Institute. “It ensures the accessibility, security, and accuracy of all ballots cast, whether in person or by mail. We urge all voters to support this important measure.”
