Rep. Dan Crenshaw on Fighting for America, Standing Against Socialism

September 26, 2019

U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw knows what it means to fight for America. Before his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, he served as a Navy SEAL for 10 years, fighting the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. As someone who devoted his life to serving this country and its people—first in the military and now as the member of Congress representing Texas’ Second District—Crenshaw understands the importance of protecting liberty for all Americans.

We at the Goldwater Institute are proud to welcome Representative Crenshaw to our Annual Dinner in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday, November 8. Buy your tickets online today.

As Crenshaw knows, liberty, unfortunately, is under attack—by many in this country. Polls shows that socialism has been growing in popularity in America. In an address to business leaders earlier this year, Crenshaw said that “there’s good news and there’s bad news” when it comes to Americans’ views on socialism. The good news is that many people who say they support socialism don’t really know what it is, but the bad news is that some people do legitimately mean socialism: They “want far more government control over your businesses and your lives,” he said.

The worst news about this socialism trend that it’s a slippery slope. For adherents of socialism, Crenshaw asked, “at what point is inequality acceptable?” They never answer that problem, because they will always push further and further, for more government control. “That’s why we fight against it right from the get-go,” Crenshaw said. “That’s why we start off with principles of free markets and protection of personal property rights and understanding that that’s government’s role: to create the infrastructure and the environment for people to thrive and compete.”

That’s our approach at the Goldwater Institute, too. We’re working to ensure government stays to its proper role: ensuring we have the conditions that maximize their ability to live their lives freely and successfully pursue their own piece of the American Dream.

Crenshaw will be among the guest speakers at the 2019 Goldwater Institute Annual Dinner, which will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday, November 8. For more information and to register, please visit https://www.goldwaterinstitute.org/event/2019goldwaterdinner/.
