Week in Review: Reject This Radical Voting Scheme

Arizonans, take notice. There’s a pernicious proposal on the November ballot that will take a sledgehammer to the Arizona Constitution. It’s Proposition 140, and it will impose ranked choice voting and jungle primaries on the state.

Ranked choice voting “requires voters to rank every candidate on the ballot running for a particular office, is confusing, lacks transparency and, at times, can disenfranchise voters,” explains Andrew W. Gould, former justice on the Arizona Supreme Court, in a new article. “This system has been a failure in many states, such as California and Alaska, and should not be used to dictate how elections operate in Arizona.”

Please preserve the integrity of our elections and vote NO on Proposition Prop 140.

It’s Time for Lightning-Speed Reforms

Innovation in medicine is happening at lightning speed. But because of government regulatory roadblocks, patients are being left behind. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is looking at how to change all that with a Rare Disease Innovation Hub. But when it does, it should put those suffering from rare diseases—and those who are seeking cures—at the forefront.

In a new letter, Goldwater Institute Director of Healthcare Policy Dr. Patrick Bailey urges the FDA to use its Rare Disease Innovation Hub to modernize the processes for making advancements in medical innovation more readily available to rare disease patients.

Just like the Goldwater Institute is doing with the Right to Try for Individualized Treatments, the FDA should put patient autonomy first and give those who are suffering from rare diseases their best shot at accessing the latest in cutting edge cures.
