Week in Review: Supercharge the Military with School Choice

What if it’s possible to supercharge the military and make school choice a reality for more than 1 million families in one fell swoop?

It can be done, Goldwater’s Matt Beienburg writes in The Federalist: “President Trump can leverage existing federal authority over our military to establish national school choice for the men and women of our armed services. Not only would this reinforce the surge in recruiting numbers prioritized by the president…it would also give the more than 1 million families who actually do not have the geographic flexibility to control their deployments the ability to regain control of their children’s educational options.”

Military families make untold sacrifices so we can live in freedom. Those families deserve freedom too—starting with their kids’ education.

Goldwater to Defend Free Speech in Oregon Supreme Court

Picture it: You run a successful small business, but there’s one big catch—it’s illegal to accurately describe what you’re selling.

That’s not just kooky, it violates basic free speech rights. Now Goldwater is headed to the Oregon Supreme Court, the sixth state high court where we’ve defended constitutional liberties, to fight this illegal restriction.

Oregon bureaucrats have been censoring truthful information about e-cigarettes (i.e. vapes) by prohibiting retailers from putting pictures of apples, strawberries, and oranges—or those very words—on their product labels, even as these perfectly legal products are helping countless people to quit smoking. We’re fighting this bureaucratic overreach on behalf of vape shop owner Paul Bates. As Paul explains, “Shouldn’t my customers have access to the truthful, accurate information they need to make wise choices?”

Another Victory Over DEI

Goldwater is leading the nationwide campaign to dismantle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), from public university lecture halls to the very halls of government—and we’ve already eliminated divisive DEI practices in 10 states and counting.

So it was good news this week when yet another municipality followed Goldwater’s lead to ban taxpayer-funded DEI practices: Fountain Hills, Ariz., joining Queen Creek and Scottsdale.

The Fountain Hills town government is officially prohibited from implementing the tenets of DEI. In other words, no affirmative action, no mandatory loyalty oaths to progressivism, and no taxpayer-funded “consultants” telling town employees they’re racist. It’s simple: government workers should focus on actual town business, not obsess over identity politics.
