Week in Review: Radical Indoctrination in Louisiana

Louisiana’s public universities are forcing aspiring teachers to take radical “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) courses just to graduate, a new Goldwater Institute report reveals. Rather than teaching future educators how to raise academic performance, these programs train them to become social justice activists. Instructors openly admit their goal is to dismantle “systems of inequality” and cultivate students’ “critical consciousness.”

Louisiana lawmakers should follow the lead of Idaho by adopting Goldwater’s Freedom from Indoctrination Act. The law would end mandatory DEI coursework and restore real academic freedom. HB421, now moving through the Louisiana statehouse, offers another path to protect students from this ideological coercion.

Georgia Puts Patients First and Enacts Right to Try 2.0

Georgia has chosen hope over bureaucracy. The Peach State has become the 12th state to adopt the Goldwater Institute’s Right to Try for Individualized Treatments (Right to Try 2.0)—a major win for patients battling rare diseases.

Thanks to SB 72, recently signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp, Georgians can now work with their doctors to access cutting-edge treatments tailored to their DNA without begging the FDA for permission.

This law builds on the original Right to Try, but goes further. It opens the door to truly personalized medicine. More states are stepping up, and Goldwater will keep pushing until this reform is the law of the land.

Don’t Turn School Choice into Obamacare

School choice has been building momentum all over the country, but now a new proposal in Congress threatens to turn that success into a Trojan horse for federal control, Matt Beienburg, the Director of Education Policy at the Goldwater Institute, recently warned in The Washington Examiner.

The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) would tie school choice to a federal tax credit program, essentially creating Obamacare for education that opens the door for the IRS to decide how private schools operate instead of parents and students.

If Washington gains a federal foothold in private education, there’s nothing to stop future administrations from mandating woke teacher training, enforcing CDC lockdown guidelines, or weaponizing tax law against schools they don’t like.

The solution isn’t a new federal program—it’s defending the gains states have already made.
