Time to Ditch CRT Indoctrination and Teach Kids About Liberty!

The public education establishment simply isn’t teaching children what they ought to be learning—our founding principles, the importance of the Constitution, and the values that make our great country second to none. Whether it’s the Critical Race Theory (CRT) indoctrination or the fact that many public schools seem incapable of teaching kids to think for themselves, it’s become clear that the education system isn’t cutting it, Connor Boyack, author of The Tuttle Twins—a series of children’s adventure stories that introduce kids to the principles of liberty—told Goldwater Executive Vice President Christina Sandefur last week during a special virtual event hosted by the Goldwater Institute.

Those deficiencies in the public education system are why Boyack, founder and president of the Utah-based Libertas Institute—which advocates for reforming laws to build a freer society—wrote The Tuttle Twins, Boyack explained. In the stories, twins Ethan and Emily go on epic adventures (with the help of their grandmother and her time-travelling wheelchair), all while learning valuable life lessons, as well as the foundational principles of free markets and liberty.

Boyack recalled a time when he came home from his Libertas job and was asked by one of his two young children—who were 3 and 5 years old at the time—what he did all day. Unable to give his child an adequate answer, Boyack turned to Amazon in the hopes of finding kids’ books about things like property rights and the values of freedom. To his surprise, he couldn’t find any. Not realizing the immense impact they’d have, Boyack got to work on The Tuttle Twins books, which would go on to fill a large void in the sea of polluted woke education.

It’s becoming obvious to countless American families that the nation’s education system is more concerned with leftist indoctrination than with preparing them to succeed in life. “Many more parents have woken up to the reality that we cannot trust the public schools to teach our kids the values we have,” Boyack said.

Children are being indoctrinated with the teachings of CRT: They’re being told that the American Dream is a lie, that America was built on racism, and that they should judge others based on skin color rather than character. Sandefur may have said it best: “A growing number of schools are adapting what people see as this really politically charged, even racially divisive content. And that is becoming prioritized, frankly, over basic skills like reading, writing, arithmetic, and learning about core American values and American history.”

Boyack put it in simple terms: “Critical thought is absent in schools.” And Sandefur agreed, noting that kids are “not being taught to think for themselves.”

But The Tuttle Twins are teaching children that American history and the principles of liberty do have a place in society, while also helping them develop critical thinking skills. Supplementing children’s education with the core lessons and values that The Tuttle Twins teach is, in a way, priceless.

Our children deserve better than leftist indoctrination—they deserve to be taught about our founding principles and the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. That’s what The Tuttle Twins are doing, and it’s also why the Goldwater Institute is fighting for school choice and for parents’ right to know what their children are learning in the classroom.

Politically charged propaganda is running rampant in classrooms, but The Tuttle Twins offer a better way. As Boyack said: “Every family needs The Tuttle Twins books. It is an antidote to all the crazy that’s happening out there.”
