Week in Review: Thirty Years of Liberty in Action

September 1, 2018

September 1, 2018

Upon accepting his presidential nomination in 1964, Barry Goldwater told an audience that “extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.” At the Goldwater Institute, defending liberty and advancing freedom is at the center of what we do every day, and it is work we have carried on for 30 years.

This week, we released our “Liberty in Action: 30th Anniversary Edition” report that reflects on our 30 years of defending liberty and looks forward to our future. Our report includes:

  • A look at 30 of the Goldwater Institute’s milestones and successes;
  • An interview with former world chess champion Garry Kasparov on why freedom is worth defending; and
  • A report on key Goldwater Institute legislative and litigation victories over the last year.

You can also read about our fight to restore free speech on campus, our exclusive reporting on the flaws in city court systems, our defense of the right to earn a living, our efforts to protect donor privacy. You can also learn about the American Freedom Network, our pro bono program for lawyers who love liberty.

We hope you will take a moment this holiday weekend to read our “Liberty in Action: 30th Anniversary Edition.” As always, thank you for your support!

Integrity of Elections Upheld in Arizona
Across the country, voters this election year will decide on ballot measures that would drastically reshape public policy in their state—and some with disastrous consequences. In two positive moves for the people of Arizona this week, the state supreme court removed two particularly pernicious initiatives from the ballot, one of which would have raised income taxes on all Arizonans, including low- and middle-income families.

Home-sharing in Your Neighborhood
There’s nothing magic about home-sharing, and using a home as a short-term rental doesn’t transform a house to a hotel. So why should cities treat home-sharing differently? Find out why home-sharing works for residential neighborhoods.
