Week in Review: Thanking the Patriots Who Stand for Freedom

November 27, 2021

November 27, 2021

In this season of giving thanks, we can reflect on how fortunate we are to live in a country where we’re free to live our lives as we choose.

“But the preservation of those freedoms is only possible because of the bravery of everyday patriots: those men and women who choose to enter the fray—despite the odds—to take a stand for the very blessings of freedom for which we give thanks,” writes Goldwater Institute President and CEO Victor Riches.

This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for the patriots fighting for the right to know what their children are learning in public schools, for the right to try to obtain potentially lifesaving care, or for the right to earn a living. “We should be grateful for the patriots among us—Americans who put their own well-being and livelihoods on the line so we can all live freer, happier lives,” Riches says.

‘Tyranny Is Not Going to Shut Us Down’

Goldwater client Debra Tisler secured a massive victory in court last week when a judge ruled that Fairfax County school board bullies’ attempts to silence her were unconstitutional. In an interview with Newsmax, she celebrated the decision and rallied concerned citizens around the cause of parents’ rights.

“Tyranny is not going to shut us down,” Tisler said. “[Other parents] should continue to speak up, and to be involved, and to know that the bureaucrats and our government-run systems do not have the right to obstruct and truncate your rights as a parent.”

Tisler, who got sued after she and fellow mom Callie Oettinger legally obtained and published documents showing how the district was spending taxpayer dollars, also expressed concern to WJLA-TV that school officials don’t really know where all the money is going.

Learning About Liberty, One Adventure at a Time! (Webinar)

Liberty in action works. So why not teach children that, rather than the lies of Critical Race Theory? And what if kids could learn about liberty by reading about the time-traveling escapades of a pair of 11-year-old twins?

Join us December 7 at 1 p.m. MST as Goldwater Executive Vice President Christina Sandefur hosts a special virtual chat with Tuttle Twins author Connor Boyack. They’ll discuss how he turned his creative idea for a children’s book into an international sensation.

Registration is free and comes with a 40% off coupon for the entire 12-book Tuttle Twins series!
